Eng. 2 End-of-Course Exam
English 2 is one of the three high school courses that requires students to take an End-of-course exam (Biology and Math 1 are also EOCs). All three courses are required for a high school diploma. EOCs differ from other state exams (called NCFEs) in that they are longer and more rigorous. EOC scores are featured prominently on student transcripts and account for 20% of a student's overall course grade. Students are scored on Levels 1-5. Students that score a level 3 or higher are considered grade level proficient.
The English 2 EOC is 60 questions with 56 multiple choice and 4 constructed (written) response questions. Students can have up to four hours to complete the test. It is important to note that the length of the test is one of the many challenges for students. It is necessary for students to prepare for the Eng. 2 test with practice activities and test taking skills. Even strong readers can struggle with focusing and enduring such a lengthy test.
